Learn how to troubleshoot common patio cleaner issues like clogged nozzles, leaks, and slow rotation. Follow our guide for optimal performance and results.
Patio cleaners, often referred to interchangeably as terrace cleaners, are powerful tools designed to simplify cleaning outdoor surfaces. However, like any equipment, they can face challenges.
Below, we provide professional solutions to common issues to ensure optimal performance and results.
A. Machine pulsing or clogged nozzles
Patio cleaners work close to dirty surfaces, making them prone to blockages from sand or debris.
Solution:
- Use the cleaning needle provided with your pressure washer to remove blockages.
- Rinse the nozzle thoroughly with a high-pressure gun or soak it in water if needed.
- For a deeper clean, disassemble the nozzle and clear blockages from all openings before reassembly.
B. Patio cleaner leaves 'rings' on the surface
Rings or spirals may appear if the cleaner remains stationary or moves too quickly.
Solution:
- Keep the cleaner moving at a steady pace.
- Clean any dirt from the underside of the cleaner to improve rotation.
- Rings can be removed by re-cleaning the surface uniformly.
C. Damage to the washing surface
High-pressure cleaning can wear down surfaces, particularly if they are old or of low quality.
Solution:
- Test on an inconspicuous area before cleaning visible sections.
- Use adjustable patio cleaners like AVA’s Premium model to reduce intensity on sensitive surfaces.
- Pre-soak the area and apply a suitable detergent to minimize pressure requirements.
D. Leaking
Leaks may reduce the cleaner’s efficiency and can occur at the swivel, nozzles, or connections.
Solution:
- Clean the swivel and ensure the nozzles produce a flat V-shaped spray.
- Replace worn o-rings or the swivel if cleaning does not resolve the issue.
- Check for frost damage or accessory-specific leaks and repair as necessary.
E. Slow rotation or fine water jets
Dirt accumulation in the rotating parts can hinder movement or reduce speed.
Solution:
- Clean the underside with a high-pressure gun aimed at the center of the rotating arm.
- Disassemble the arm if needed for a more thorough cleaning, then reassemble and test.
F. Reduced cleaning efficiency
If cleaning performance has diminished, the cause often lies in one of the above issues.
Solution:
- Ensure proper preparation, including pre-soaking the area and using suitable detergents.
- Refer to tips in Section C for effective cleaning techniques.
G. I can not attach the patio cleaner to the lance
All bayonet couplings have a loose o-ring fixer inside. If this detaches from one of the accessory products, it stays in the gun or lance and blocks new equipment. Pull out the loose part with pointed pliers, screwdriver, or similar, and attach it back where it belongs.

By following these solutions, you can maintain your patio cleaner for consistent and effective results, ensuring it operates at peak performance.
